Tree Service in Farmersville, TX

Farmersville's Older Trees

Farmersville is one of the oldest towns in Collin County, and Tree Service here often means working around trees that have been growing next to houses for generations. Settlement began in 1849 on the Jefferson-McKinney Road, and the town incorporated on June 2, 1873. In the 1930s it called itself the Onion Capital of North Texas and shipped more than 1,000 carloads a year. The old town blocks around the square are where the biggest trees are, and they tend to be close to porches, garages and overhead service lines.

Big trees on small old lots

Older town lots are narrower than modern suburban ones, and trees planted a century apart end up crowded together over roofs, fences and alleys. Removing a large pecan or elm in that setting is rarely a matter of dropping it in one piece. The usual approach is to climb or use a lift, take the crown down limb by limb with ropes, then lower the trunk in sections into a cleared landing area. It takes longer than open-field felling but keeps the neighbor's roof and your fence intact. We plan where every piece lands before the first cut.

Pruning instead of removal

Many old Farmersville trees do not need to come down. They need deadwood removed, a few heavy limbs reduced and clearance restored over the roof. Good pruning follows ANSI A300 practice: cuts made just outside the branch collar, no flush cuts, no topping, and no more live foliage removed than the tree can spare. A healthy old tree can carry on for decades with a pruning pass every few years.

Lavon Lake on the west side

The northern portion of Lavon Lake reaches Farmersville's western city limits. Trees near the water and in the low ground leading to it grow differently from those in town: taller, more leaning, often with softer soil under them. If you own lakeside or bottomland property near town, hazard checks before spring storms are worth the visit.

Housing and highways

Farmersville had 3,612 residents in 2020, with 1,380 housing units and 1,289 households. US 380 runs across the south side of the city and SH 78 along the west. Newer homes have gone up around the edges, but much of the housing stock in the original town is older, and older homes often have older wiring and service drops running through tree canopies. Before pruning near the line from the pole to your house, call your electric provider about a temporary disconnect; never work within 10 feet of a line yourself.

Ash borer reached the county

Emerald ash borer was confirmed in Collin County in 2024. If an older ash shades your house, have it checked. Treatment can protect a healthy tree; a tree that has already thinned badly is usually better removed in a planned way than left to become brittle.

Stumps in old yards

Old town yards often hold stumps from trees removed decades ago, sometimes with sidewalks or fences built around them. Stump grinding takes them below grade so the ground can be leveled and seeded. Before grinding, buried lines are located through Texas 811, which matters on older lots where gas and water service lines may run near old stumps.

Farmersville Questions

Can you remove a big tree between two old houses without damaging anything?

That is what sectional removal is for. The crown is taken down piece by piece on ropes and the trunk lowered in sections. We map the landing zone and protect fences and walks before starting.

My old tree has dead limbs. Does it need to come down?

Not necessarily. Deadwood is normal in old trees. If the trunk and root flare are sound, crown cleaning and some weight reduction often keep it safe for years.

Do you work on lakeside property near Farmersville?

Yes. Trees near Lavon Lake are often tall and leaning, and soft ground can limit equipment. We plan access and sometimes take trees down in sections instead of felling.
