What to Expect From McKinney Tree Service Pros

McKinney Tree Service Pros removes, trims and prunes trees, grinds stumps and cleans up storm damage for homeowners in McKinney and the towns around it in central Collin County: Allen, Fairview, Lucas, Melissa, Anna, Princeton, Wylie and the small communities out toward Lavon Lake and Farmersville.

McKinney has two kinds of tree work. Around the downtown square and the older streets near it, there are big, old pecans, elms and oaks over houses built close together, with alleys, detached garages and overhead service lines. Across most of the rest of the city, which grew from about 54,000 people in 2000 to an estimated 236,000 in 2025, the trees are younger: live oaks, cedar elms, red oaks and Bradford pears planted when the subdivisions went in, now big enough to rub roofs, hang over pools and crowd fences. The work is different in each, so we start every job by looking at it in person.

At the visit we look at the tree (species, lean, dead wood, cracks, the root flare) and at everything it could hit or that is in the way: the roof, the pool, the fence line, the neighbor's yard, the alley, the service drop to your meter and the route from the street to the backyard gate. On a fenced lot with a narrow side yard, that route often decides how a tree has to come down.

We also look at the rules. McKinney's tree preservation ordinance protects quality trees such as oaks and pecans from 6 to 41 inches in diameter, and every species at 42 inches and up, so a large tree may need a city tree permit before it is cut. The city lists no fee for a residential removal permit on an existing home, and state law bars a city from prohibiting the removal of a dead or diseased tree or one that poses an imminent threat. If your HOA has its own approval step, we can write the quote so it is easy to submit. If a branch is tangled in an Oncor line between poles, that is Oncor's job, and we tell you so.

Then you get a written quote. It lists each tree, what will be done to it, what happens to the logs, brush and chips, whether the stump is included and the price. Work starts only after you approve it, and any change is agreed with you before it is done.

How we work

  • Branches lowered on ropes when there is no room to drop them over a fence or pool.
  • Oaks pruned outside the February to June oak wilt season unless safety can't wait, with every cut painted.
  • Ash wood chipped on site, because emerald ash borer can survive in cut wood.
  • Brush hauled off: McKinney's curbside collection does not take limbs cut by anyone but the resident.
  • Storm calls sorted by danger first: trees on roofs, blocked doors and driveways.
